Summer Festivals & Events that Are Worth the Trip



Coke Zero 400 Weekend. July 3-5, 2008. Racing enthusiasts won't want to miss this weekend full of racing action starting with the Brumos Porsche 250 (July 3) and the Winn Dixie 250 (July 4). On July 5, the summer's most anticipated auto event takes place -- the Coca Cola 400 at Daytona International Speedway, one of only a few NASCAR races run at night. Red, White & Boom. July 4. This spectacular Fourth of July Celebration, to be held at the Daytona Beach Bandshell and Oceanfront Park, features POCO in concert, an appearence by NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, simulator rides, children's games and more. The festival is followed by Fourth of July fireworks over the Atlantic Ocean beginning at 9:45 p.m. Events will take place behind Ocean Walk Shoppes. Main Street July 4th Block Party and Barbecue. July 4, 2008. Main Street in Daytona Beach will host this event which will feature BBQ food vendors, as well as an amateur barbecue competition that will award prizes and trophies in multiple categories. Later, revelers can enjoy a fireworks show from the nearby Daytona Beach Pier. 386.255.9300.

Canaveral Lens Maintenance Demonstration
. July 4, 11, 18, 25, 2008. Join 'old time lighthouse keepers' at Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse as they demonstrate lens maintenance, and discuss Cape Canaveral lighthouse history. 1 p.m.-2 p.m. www.ponceinlet.org. 386.761.1821.

Bandshell Live! Through Labor Day Weekend, the historic oceanfront Daytona Beach Bandshell will feature FREE music for the entire family. Friday nights, bring the lawnchairs, kick back and enjoy local artists beginning at 7 p.m. and regional artists beginning at 8 p.m. Food and beverages are available at the Bandshell, as well as in the adjacent Ocean Walk Village. 386.852.7890.

Boards & Waves Expo. July 12-13, 2008. This two-day consumer surf expo at the Daytona Beach Resort & Conference Center will include surfboard shaping demonstrations, surfboard painting and artwork, and vintage board collections. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission: $5 daily. National Lighthouse Day
