Recently, I found myself in the Ormond Beach area with my wife and her 25-year-old son. When I asked him for a good place to eat that we may not have heard of without thinking twice, he said "Past Times". They have great prime rib." That's all I needed to hear!
Past Times is very easy to find. It sits on the corner of Nova Road, and Hand Avenue in Ormond Beach. We had no problem finding a handicap parking spot, but I noticed there were several other spots close by that were not handicap. I can't see parking ever being a huge problem there.
My son held the door for us, and we walked into the bar area where a festive crowd was sitting around a semi-circular bar and one TV showing sports. A two-person band was performing a familiar song on the right, and the dining area was on the left. It was pretty roomy, enough so that I didn't have to worry about squeezing between chairs to get to my table. I like that. I also noticed that the place has a 50s-Rock 'n Roll diner feel to it. I like that, too. I was told they have karaoke often.
We were all pretty hungry, so we went ahead and ordered an appetizer together with our cold draft beers. They have wings, chicken fingers, potato skins, soft pretzels, onion rings, shrimp, pork, chicken bites, crab cakes, mac & cheese bites, and even frog legs! We decided on the crab stuffed mushrooms, and they were out-of-this-world delicious. I might go back just for the mushrooms.
The menu is versatile, with several sandwiches including turkey, ham, prime rib, fish, and more. They also had several steaks cooked with a variety of sauces including marsala, béarnaise, blue cheese, and au poivre. Pork chops were available with cinnamon apples, lemon pepper, and mushroom gravy. And chicken came in seven different ways. Did I mention the shrimp, fresh catch, or salmon?
I ordered the prime rib, a side of mixed vegetables, and scalloped potatoes. My wife had the Mushroom & Swiss burger with fries and a side salad. And my son decided on blackened salmon, rice, and a side salad. Being a family of foodies, we all tried each other's meals. Everybody was happy, full, and satisfied! And I promise you this is the place to go to get prime rib. It was cooked perfectly.
Aside from having delicious food, Past Times is super affordable! I have paid much more money for much less food, and that made this place a real treat. Also, the wait staff was fantastic and accommodating. I asked to have my prime rib cut up quarter-sized pieces, and they gladly accommodated me with no questions asked. There are several reasons I'll be going back to Past Times: great food, affordable prices, very accessible, and good, live, local music.
