Touch a stingray
The new aquatic touch
pool at the Marine Science
Center in Ponce Inlet
features cownose rays and
Atlantic stingrays. At the
13-foot-long, 1,400-gallon
pool, kids — and grownups,
too, if they dare — can reach
in and feel creatures that
inhabit our local waters.
In addition to rays, several
kinds of fish (an Atlantic
bumper, a permit and
Atlantic spadefish) and a
variety of invertebrates
such as horseshoe crabs,
anemones, sea urchins and
hermit crabs are in the touch
pool.

Build a race car
As you might expect,
even the children's museum
in Daytona Beach has
motorsports on its mind.
The Charles and Linda
Williams Children's Museum
at the Museum of Arts &
Sciences houses interactive
exhibits that demonstrate
various principles of
science — including a
raceway where kids can
build their own vehicles.
There are also doctor and
radiologist exhibits, a tennis
ball launcher, a video light
microscope, a make-believe
pizza parlor and more.

page 45)
Ride a roller coaster
Daytona Beach's first
and only roller coaster,
The Sand Blaster on the
Boardwalk, has 2,700 feet of
climbs, drops and twists at
speeds over 40 mph and an
awesome ocean view. Kids
must be 42 inches tall to
ride with an adult, 48 inches
tall to ride unaccompanied.
Younger children can
experience The Fun Slide and
The Tug Boats instead. See
the Boardwalk Amusements
listing on
page 46
.
Splash all day
Children of all ages can
splash the day away in
Castaway Bay at Daytona
Beach’s beachside waterpark,
Daytona Lagoon. Older kids,
42 inches or taller, will want
to tackle the water slide
challenges, such as Kraken's
Conquest and Blackbeard's
Revenge. There's go-kart,
arcade and laser tag action to
be had as well.
